Create flexibility in your business before you get started
As a business owner, if you want flexibility in your life, you have to start with flexibility in business. Most 9-5 jobs can't give you the flexibility that owning your own business can. The key is to find a business that you can operate anytime, anywhere and actually earn an income at it. If you're looking for balance in your life, it's a mistake to assess each business idea, not only for its profitability, but its flexibility.
Having flexibility in business ensures your new venture is:
- Easy to start
- Easy to run
- Easy to make a profit at
Easy to start means that the business takes a very short amount of time and money to start. It also means a business where clients want your business you don't have to spend a lot of time and effort convincing them that they need your services.
Easy to run, means you can easily hire out what needs to be done, or that the projects you choose are quick to do; client work is easy to complete in a short amount of time; projects don't run drag on indefinitely and the clients you choose are easy to work with.
Easy to run also means the business can be done anywhere, remotely that you are not tied down by location, and the tools you need for the business are portable.
Easy to make a profit at means that clients are willing to pay for your service. Your business has to make money to support your lifestyle, or else, it's just a hobby. And your time is way too valuable to spend just playing around. You need clients who keep coming back for more of what you have to offer and who willingly recommend you to other clients.
Once you start to apply these three elements, it will certainly focus your ideas quickly so you don't waste time starting a business that won't work in your life.
